Graceful Pines Counseling & Consultation, PLLC was created to provide a calm and supportive space where individuals, couples, and families can explore life’s challenges and move toward meaningful growth and healing.
Life brings seasons of change, uncertainty, and transition. During these times, counseling can offer a place to pause, reflect, and gain new perspective. At Graceful Pines Counseling, the goal is to create an environment where clients feel heard, respected, and supported as they navigate the challenges and opportunities that life presents.
Dr. Lorry Royal, LPC, NCC, CSC, is a licensed professional counselor and counselor educator with more than 25 years of experience supporting students, families, and communities across rural East Texas through counseling, education, and mental health services.
She began her career as an elementary and special education teacher, where she developed a deep appreciation for the educational and developmental journeys of children and adolescents. She later transitioned into the role of school counselor, working with Pre-K through 12th grade students for more than 25 years. During this time, she valued the opportunity to follow students throughout their school years and to support them as they navigated important academic, personal, and career decisions along the way.
Throughout her career, she has served as an educator, school counselor, counselor educator, and mental health professional. These experiences have provided her with a deep understanding of the challenges individuals and families often face, as well as the resilience and strength that people bring to the counseling process.
While working in schools, Dr. Royal also gained experience in the clinical mental health field, working with both individuals, couples, and groups. These experiences further strengthened her commitment to supporting people across a wide range of life experiences and challenges.
Dr. Royal earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from East Texas State University, her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Texas A&M University-Commerce, and her Doctorate in Counselor Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce.
She currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at East Texas A&M University, where she teaches graduate level counseling courses and helps prepare future counselors entering the profession. Prior to relocating to far East Texas, she served as an Assistant Professor with the university.
Her professional background in schools, higher education, and clinical counseling has shaped a strong commitment to supporting children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families as they navigate emotional challenges, relationship concerns, and life transitions. She also has a particular passion for supporting educators and school counselors, recognizing the unique responsibilities and emotional demands that often accompany these roles. Having spent much of her career working within school communities, she understands the unique pressures educators and school counselors face and values the opportunity to provide them with a supportive space for reflection, balance, and renewed perspective.
In addition to her academic and clinical work, Dr. Royal regularly participates in continuing education in psychology, counseling, and neuroscience to stay informed about current research and emerging therapeutic practices. This ongoing learning reflects her commitment to understanding the science of emotions, the brain, and relationships while providing thoughtful and evidence informed counseling services.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Royal enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors. She also considers herself a lifelong learner and enjoys continually exploring new ideas and knowledge that support both personal and professional growth.
After more than twenty five years of working in education and school counseling in rural East Texas, Dr. Royal witnessed firsthand the many challenges children, families, and educators often face. These experiences reinforced the importance of having a supportive place where individuals and families can talk openly, gain perspective, and find meaningful ways to move forward.
